RAM & XMP/DOCP
Enable XMP (Intel) or DOCP (AMD) to unlock your RAM’s full speed. High-performance RAM has a speed rating (e.g., 3200MHz) but runs at a slower default when first installed.
XMP or DOCP in BIOS lets RAM run at its advertised speed, which can improve performance in games and data-heavy applications.
Update BIOS First
Before enabling XMP/DOCP, update your BIOS. If you enable XMP/DOCP first, your settings may revert after updating the BIOS.
How to enable XMP/DOCP
-
Boot into the BIOS by pressing the BIOS key while your PC starts
- Commonly Del or F2, but check your motherboard manual for the correct key
-
Locate the XMP/DOCP setting
- AMD systems use DOCP, Intel systems use XMP
- Usually found on the main BIOS screen or under an OC/Overclocking section
- Select Profile 1, as it’s typically the most stable profile
-
Save and exit the BIOS
-
Run a stress test to verify stability (see below)
How to run a stress test
Memory profiles can be unstable and cause crashes. Run a stress test for at least 1 hour to verify stability.
-
Download OCCT and install it
-
Open OCCT and navigate to the Stability Test tab
-
Select the Memory tab and click the green Start button
-
Wait 10 seconds for the test to start (free users), then monitor for errors on the left side
-
Let the test run for 1 hour without interruption
Important
If your computer blue screens, freezes, or OCCT reports errors, disable the XMP/DOCP profile immediately. Unstable memory settings can cause file corruption and random crashes.
Next steps
After enabling XMP/DOCP:
- Enable Resizable BAR (optional) - Improve GPU performance if you have a compatible graphics card
- Configure Atlas settings - Customize your installation
